Fall Fashion Trends 2021

AfterlightImage.JPG

It’s almost that time of year again, aka, fall! I can’t even tell you how excited I am! It’s been SO hot in Bakersfield, CA - it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even feel like dressing cute, I just want to be as cool as possible! With that said, I have been pouring over upcoming fall fashion trends for 2021 to get an idea of what I want to incorporate into my wardrobe. I made a list of my top favorites (see below) and then went thrifting with my friend Sarah in search of them. While I didn’t walk away with an item from every single trend on my list, I found a few that I just couldn’t pass up!

My Favorite Fall 2021 Women's Fashion Trends:

  • Sequins

  • Saturated colors

  • Tailored pieces

  • Knits

  • Roaring 20s

  • Puffers

  • Midi length pieces

  • Cozy pieces

  • Lots of patterns

  • Black

1. Sequins.

Okay, let’s be honest, what girl doesn’t love a little bit of sparkle in her wardrobe? The sequins trend can be incorporated into your closet in a variety of ways. You could buy a great jacket, dress, or pants, or for someone who doesn’t feel bold enough to wear those, simply add a sequin clutch, belt, or headband as a little pop! Have fun with this trend and let your inner child play with sparkles :)

2. Saturated Colors.

Fall 2021 fashion color trends are giving me all the feels! I think this trend might be my favorite this year. It’s all about bold colors (and lots of them); this can be color-blocked pieces or solids - anything with that saturated feel to it. I personally love a good pop of color in any outfit and lately have been doing some major color blocking. I found an AMAZING orange dress on my recent thrift trip that I decided to pair with an orange long sleeve top.

Shop the trend:

Everlane Terry Cloth Notch Shirt and Mary Jane flats , and Lisa Says Gah Maddie Midi Dress

3. Tailored Pieces

Tailored style clothing consists of suits, suit coats, etc. I’m really into the idea of a long oversized men’s car coat with a beanie as one of my fall-staple looks. You really can never go wrong with suiting pieces - adding a suit jacket can dress up a pair of jeans, or add an unexpected twist to a midi skirt and boots. I’ve seen a lot of suits in neutral colors that are trending, but I would also suggest finding them in saturated colors; that way you can have two fall 2021 women's fashion trends in one!

Shop the trend:

Sezane Johnson Coat and Levi’s Wool Cocoon Coat

4. Knits

I think knits are a forever fall staple - they’re just so timeless. Knitwear fashion trends 2021 include cut-out sweaters, knit two-pieces, sweater vests, tube skirts, etc. But I think my personal favorite will always be chunky sweaters! They are just SO COZY! I found a sequin embellished, vintage knit set while thrifting, but decided to pass on it because it had a hole and it wasn’t my style. It definitely inspired me to try knits in other styles though!

Shop the trend:

Sezane THALIA Dress and GASPARD jumper, and Everlane Oversized Alpaca Crew

5. Roaring ’20s

We saw this trend start making its way into the mainstream last year, but due to Covid, we didn’t get to fully enjoy it so let’s make up for lost time! Roaring 20s 2021 styles have elements of lace, silky nightwear looks for going out, handkerchief hemlines, and more.

Shop the trend:

Reformation Cameron Dress, Sezane Palma Top, and Reformation Vendome Top

6. Puffers

Yes, “puff stuff” as I like to say! Fall fashion 2021 trends includes a lot of puff and quilted looks. Think puffer jackets and quilted vests. If you have never invested in a puffer coat before, this is the year to do it!

Shop the trend:

Everlane ReNew Channeled Liner, Levi’s DIAMOND QUILT PUFFER, and Everlane Cotton Quilted Jacket

7. Midi Length Pieces

This is definitely another one of my top picks for current fashion trends 2021. After having a baby, I feel more comfortable in pieces of clothing that hit below the knee (this is just my personal preference). Midi length pieces can be dresses, skirts, and even jackets and vests (the puffer trend has a lot of these midi styles) - think a midi skirt paired back to a graphic tee or peasant blouse, or a long duster worn with jeans. There are a ton of ways to style this trend.

Shop the trend:

Reformation Twilight Dress and Bea Skirt

8. Cozy Pieces

Cozy pieces. Need I say more? I think we ALL love bundling up in an oversized cozy sweater with tights. For fall, think cozy sets and beanies and maybe even a wool skirt! This is the year to enjoy wearing all the things that you feel super cozy and warm in, so definitely take advantage of it!

Shop the trend:

Everlane Ribbed Flare Pant and Lisa Says Gah Wave Knit Cardigan

9. Lots of Patterns

This is the season for pattern mixing and bold prints! Take the risk and try doing two unconventional colors together and see what you can come up with, or buy that crazy pattern suit you keep seeing online. I think we forget that fashion is meant to be fun, and I think mixing patterns and colors is one of the best ways to make fashion fun again!

Shop the trend:

Levi’s Mira Dress , Sezane Alice Dress, and Reformation Nikita Dress

10. Black

It’s funny to me that this is considered a fall 2021 trend because, in my mind, black is timeless and always in style! However, with that said, this is the year to incorporate black pieces into your wardrobe. Do you own a little black dress? Do you have a vintage black blouse? If not, now is the time to find those pieces and start wearing them. I found a black sequin mini dress while thrifting that I didn’t end up buying, but I loved that it included two of the biggest trends for fall: black and sequins.

Shop the trend:

Sezane Eve Dress and sister jane DREAM Canopy Bloom Embellished Midi Dress

To sum it up, I’m ready for fall, and the fall 2021 fashion trends are amazing. Pull some inspiration from the above items to use on your next shopping spree - you won’t regret it! And above all, make it fun. Fashion should always be about you expressing yourself in your own way:)
