Everlane Vs. Levi’s Jean Review: Way Highs & Ribcage

I know you guys have seen me raving recently about the Everlane Way-High Jeans. Well, I wanted to break down the reasons why I LOVE these jeans and why they have officially taken the place of my old favorite jeans - Levi’s Ribcage.

Everlane Way High and Levi’s Ribcage Comparison…

Okay, so first off, I have to say that they’re both my all-time fav jeans, but I think the Way Highs might be the winners. As soon as I put them on I instantly knew that these were my new favorite jeans! I have never worn a pair of high-waisted jeans that were this comfortable in my LIFE!

Everlane Way High Jean Review:

The Way High is one of Everlane’s newest jeans. I am so happy they created this style! I tried four of the washes and two different sizes so that I could get a feel for each one. They come in five washes. Coal, Vintage Indigo, Flax, Distressed and Retro Blue. Retro Blue is the only wash I haven’t tried. Coal and Vintage Indigo are my favorite washes.

Comfort Level

The main thing I love about these jeans is just how comfortable they are. I have never worn a high waisted jean that hits above my belly button that was this comfortable! When I first tried them on, I was wearing leggings right before and thought that putting jeans on was going to be uncomfortable, but I was wrong! They’re a little thinner than the Ribcage jeans so they’re extra soft and comfortable and they have just the right amount of stretch.

Silhouette

As far as silhouette goes, they’re the perfect straight leg jean that I’ve been looking for - not overly wide legged or too tapered. A lot of straight leg jeans just end up looking tapered on me and I hate that. I also love the back pocket placement. The pants kind of nip you in all the right ways.

Sizing

I do recommend sizing down. I am currently a size 27 and I found that the 26 fit a lot better than the 27. Once you wear them around they loosen up a little bit because of the stretch in the fabric. Everlane offers them in sizes 23-33.

Pricing

If you are on a budget these are a great jean! They’re only $78 (cheaper than the Ribcage, which is usually $98).

All in all, I’m amazed at these pants, and I’m not just saying that!

Coal-

So this wash is literally perfection. I’ve been waiting for a great pair of black jeans so I am thrilled to have this pair now. They are called coal, but they are a true black color. They are one of the three washes that have a raw hem (Flax & Distressed are the other two) which means you can cut them yourself to make the pants whatever length you want. After multiple washes you’ll need to trim the fray off the bottom, but this is true of any raw edge jean.

I do recommend turning your pants inside out before washing and drying them to maintain their dark black color.

Vintage Indigo-

The Way-High jean in vintage indigo also has the same amount of comfort as the black (coal). I love the wash and find it to be the perfect medium wash jean that goes with everything. A staple wardrobe piece- I’ve been reaching for these multiple days a week since I got them.

The only difference between these and the coal is that these have a hem at the bottom, so if you are going to crop them you will lose the hem. The retro blue wash is the only other wash with a hem.

One thing to note: I would probably wash these separately the first time you wash them. I didn’t notice any bleeding or discoloration on my other clothes in the laundry, however, the blue from the jeans actually bled a little on the back leather Everlane patch. Kind of a bummer.

Other Washes- Flax, Retro Blue, Distressed

Levi’s Ribcage Jeans Review:

So I still love these jeans and they will forever remain a wardrobe staple for me. One of the main things I love about these jeans are how high the rise is (right above the belly button- similar to the Way Highs), and I also just love the iconic Levi’s patch. If you get the right wash these jeans might get mistaken for a great pair of vintage Levi’s, which is always a good thing in my book!

The first pair I bought was their straight leg ankle style. After that, I got them in two other washes because I loved them so much! I also ordered them in a full-length style and chopped off the bottom because I like my jeans to sit right at ankle length, but you can get them in multiple lengths.

Comfort Level

Most of the Ribcage styles are 99% cotton and 1% elastane which is enough stretch to be comfortable and not too much that it looks like a jegging. Everlane’s Way High are 2% elastane which might be the reason why the material feels a little thinner and they feel a bit more comfortable. At this point in my life- being 6 months postpartum, comfort is KEY!

Silhouette

One downside of the Ribcage is that they have sooo many different versions of it now which makes it hard to decide which pair will be the best fit for you. I’ve tried a couple of different styles and not all are created equal. My personal favorite the Ribcage Straight Ankle Jean in Jive Swing isn’t available in the jive swing wash anymore, although there are a variety of other washes. I’ve also purchased some secondhand that were a wide leg cut (pictured here) and I ended up having to taper the leg a little bit because the wide leg wasn’t wide enough to be a true wide leg (they ended up just kind of looking too baggy on). I really like that there are less options in silhouette with the Everlane Way Highs. You know exactly what the fit will be no matter what wash you choose. However, if you aren’t particular about a straight leg style, you might want to explore all the silhouette options of the Ribcage Jeans!

Sizing

In my experience, with the styles and washes I’ve worn, they do run true to size. You can breathe in them, which is nice (LOL) and they’re pretty comfortable, although not as comfy as the Way High jean. Levi’s offers their ribcage jeans in plus size as well which is a huge bonus.

Pricing

The Ribcage typically runs from $98- $128 depending on the style. However, Levi’s frequently has sales, so often you can get them at a discounted price. The Way High is a better deal in my opinion coming in at $78.

Final Verdict:

I can’t believe I’m saying this but the Everlane Way Highs trump Levi’s Ribcage Jean! When it comes to comfort, silhouette, and wash they just do it better. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE the Ribcage, but I just love the Way Highs more!
